Office add-ins won't install: fixing the "add-in catalogs" Trust Center error
How to allow Office Store add-ins in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
If Office shows "Please add or enable add-in catalogs from the trust center", or the Add-ins button is empty, Office is blocking add-ins from the Office Store. Here's how to fix it.
Step 1: Check the Trust Center (on your PC)
- Open the Office app (Excel, Word or PowerPoint) and go to File → Options.
- Select Trust Center → Trust Center Settings…
- Select Trusted Add-in Catalogs.
- Untick "Don't allow any web add-ins to start".
- Untick "Don't allow web add-ins to start from the Office Store".
- Click OK, then close the app completely and reopen it.
Step 2: If the boxes are greyed out
An organisation policy is controlling them, so your IT admin needs to change it. Admins should check:
- Cloud Policy at config.office.com → Customization → Policy Management
- Intune configuration profiles, or Group Policy
- For settings such as "Block web add-ins from the Office Store" and "Allow Unsecure web add-ins and Catalogs"
Step 3: Check the tenant setting (admins)
In the Microsoft 365 admin centre → Settings → Org settings → User owned apps and services, make sure "Let users access the Office Store" is ticked.
Quick test: try installing the add-in in the web version of the app at office.com. If it works there but not on the desktop, the problem is the local Trust Center setting, not your organisation's settings.
